CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB

- Number of positions available: 1
- Expected start: May 2019
- Temporal Position. The position is for 12 months (approximately)
- Gross annual salary package: 18.000 €
JOB PURPOSE / PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a highly motivated person in the field of water treatment. The hired person will complement a multidisciplinary team involving engineers and ecologists to develop more sustainable technologies for sanitation (inspired by nature). The team is currently involved in the development of 2 decision support systems which integrate grey and green infrastructure. The hired person would give support to the development of these 2 decision support systems by generating a knowledge based of existing experiences, and validating the decision support systems in real case studies, which involves desktop and experimental work. The candidate would join a team of 6 researchers/technicians in charge of developing web-based applications for the water sector. The development of the web-based tools is supported and sponsored by prestigious international research centers (International Water Association, The Nature Convervacy from US) and companies (i.e. Global Omnium).
The hired person will combine both desktop and experimental work. The desktop work involves the collection of evidences from literature to develop a knowledge base on successful experiences. The experimental work involves the participation in measuring campaigns at two integrated systems (wastewater treatment plant + river). The hired person will also validate the web-based decision support systems after all the information from evidences and from the experimental campaigns is collected.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & SELECTION CRITERIA
Must Have – Required
Experience in research-like activities (e.g. demonstrated in the form of master thesis work) and/or sound background in water issues
University master degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or similar.
Independent, self-responsible and well-structured working style;
Teamwork-oriented and enjoyment of inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation;
Very good communication skills as well as proficiency in written and spoken English language
Activities, knowledge/experience in nature-based solutions, GIS-software, previous experience in review works, experience in modelling and/or development or use of decision support tools, ability to work independently and as a member of a team; she/he must be creative, flexible, and eager to learn and to expand his /her scientific network, knowledge of the Spanish and Catalan languages is also positively evaluated; driving license positively evaluated.
