CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOB

  • Number of positions available: 1
  • Position: Research Technician
  • Expected start: November 2017
  • The position for 6 months
  • Gross salary package: 20.000 €/year divided into 12 payments

 

JOB PURPOSE / PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Analysis, identification and assessment of the impact of organic pollutants and degradation products in environmental samples.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform sample preparation, analysis by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) techniques, and quantification by the isotope dilution method to determine relevant organic pollutants and degradation products in environmental samples, including inland and coastal waters, collected during 2017 and 2018 in different points of Catalonia.

Sample preparation includes an extraction step, based on solid phase extraction (SPE) in the case of waters samples, and pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) or Quechers in the case of solid samples, followed by clean-up if necessary, and instrumental determination mainly by LC-MS/MS.

Analysis of field samples will be completed with the preparation of reports containing the results obtained and their interpretation.

 

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & SELECTION CRITERIA

Must Have – Required

Experience: Experience in the study of the occurrence of organic contaminants and degradation products in the aquatic environment (especially ground and marine waters) with chromatographic techniques.Experience in biodegradation experiments.

Experience in techniques like infrared spectrometry (IR), polarimetry, mass-spectrometry (MS), and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR).

Knowledge: Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences and Master’s Degree.ç

 

Skills: Microsoft Office (Spreadsheets, Word processing, Databases, and Presentations). Spanish and English.

Desirable: Experience in R (statistical software) and NMR (chemical software).
