- Temporal position. The position is for 6 months (approximately)
- Gross annual salary package: 15.000 €
JOB PURPOSE / PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) is seeking candidates for a Research Technician position within the group of “Quality and Microbial Diversity” and in the framework of project SEWAGENE: Accumulation, Spread and Removal of Antibiotic Resistance in Sewer Systems, funded by Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (2016 Call, Ref. CTM2016-75653-R) – AEI/FEDER, UE.
The technician will be giving support to research tasks in the frame of project SEWAGENE. The candidate will be in charge of: a) a lab-scale pilot plant mimicking the functioning of a real sewer; b) sample collection and processing; c) DNA and RNA extraction; d) molecular analysis (qPCR and amplicon-targeted sequencing, …); e) analysis of sequence datasets. The technician will also be in charge of reporting the results of the different experiments carried out.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & SELECTION CRITERIA
Must Have – Required
Knowledge: Candidates must have a degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Environmental Engineering or related fields, and a Master degree in Biology, Water or Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Wastwater Treatment or related fields.
Skills: Good skills Experience on the management of biological reactors and/or pilot plants and on the application of molecular techniques for the identification and quantitation of marker genes (PCR, qPCR, amplicon-targeted sequencing, metagenomics). Experience on wastewater treatment and environmental chemistry will be also considered. Experience in writing scientific reports and manuscripts in English is necessary.
Fluency in English and Spanish with good oral and writing communication skills is essential.
