Research Technician Advanced
Nick Duinslaeger earned his MSc in Catalytic Science and Technology from the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. Before starting his scientific career, he worked as a project manager at Veolia Water Technologies, where he was involved in the design and engineering of wastewater treatment plants in the Benelux region. Later, he joined Médecins Sans Frontières as Technical Referent in Environmental Health, being responsible for implementing and managing interventions in SSW (water supply, disease prevention, waste management, hygiene and infection control) in medical projects.
Since September 2019, Nick has been working at the Catalan Water Research Institute, where his research focuses on the development of innovative anode materials and the design of nano-electrochemical systems for treatment of waste water. Specifically, his work focuses on the degradation of poly- and perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS). He is currently in the final stages of completing his PhD, which involves the use of graphene-enabled electrochemical processes for the removal of PFAS.
