On February 18th, a new edition of ICRA’s Flash Seminars was held, focused on research in nanotechnology for water treatment, featuring researchers Elisabeth Cuervo, Jing Ma, Anna Segués, Oriol Casabella, and Nick Duinslaeger.
The talks presented cutting-edge advancements in the use of nanomaterials to improve water quality in an accessible and engaging way. Innovative solutions were showcased, such as electrochemical disinfection using graphene sponges, the degradation of persistent toxic compounds through electrochemical processes, and the use of nanotechnology-based catalysts to prevent odors and corrosion in sewer systems. Special attention was given to the challenges of scaling these technologies from the lab to real-world applications, emphasizing technical, regulatory, and economic barriers.
The seminar provided a broad and up-to-date perspective on how nanotechnology can contribute to more sustainable, efficient, and safe water management in the face of current environmental challenges.
