On 16 July, the kick-off meeting of the AWARE project (PCI2025-167065-2) was held online. The initiative focuses on developing an approach based on the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) methodology to provide an integrated evaluation of the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of water resource recovery and reuse solutions.

The meeting brought together all consortium partners, coordinated by the Università degli Studi Niccolò Cusano, as well as representatives from ICRA, including Lluís Corominas, Joaquim Comas, Sara Rodríguez-Mozaz, Gianluigi Buttiglieri, Esther Mendoza, and Eric Herran.

During the session, coordinated by Professor Lidia Lombardi, participants were introduced to the project’s objectives, partner institutions, work packages, and case studies. Project management, communication, and governance aspects were also discussed.

AWARE will develop more robust, transparent, and comparable methodologies to assess the environmental, economic, and social sustainability of water reuse and resource recovery solutions, with the aim of supporting decision-making in the field of the circular water economy.
