Currently, he coordinates the Horizon Europe intoDBP project (€4 M). He has published 66 scientific publications, including 57 peer-reviewed ISI publications, 1 editorial, 6 book chapters and 2 trade reports; in total ~2000 citations, index h = 26 (Scopus). His research has a multidisciplinary approach to solving questions in the following areas: • Public health and emerging carcinogens: Disinfection of water generates unwanted disinfection byproducts (DBPs), toxic organic molecules that often contain halogens, nitrogen, or both. The course has focused on understanding how DBPs are formed in different disinfection regimes applicable to drinking, reclaimed and waste water systems. • Effect of Global Change on the Quality of Drinking and Recycled Water to understand and predict the effects of global change, associated with human impacts on the climate and territory, and define strategies to mitigate them and guarantee drinking water for the population . These effects studied include water scarcity, increased salinity in aquifers, eutrophication and extreme events. • Water treatment technologies by designing and evaluating new treatment approaches to reduce the formation of DBPs. His research has determined the fate of DBPs and their precursor molecules through appropriate treatments such as membranes, adsorbents and oxidation processes. • Advanced Analytical Chemistry and prognosis of DBP formation via the development of methods to predict the formation of DBPs from the molecular footprint of dissolved organic matter measured with high-resolution mass spectrometry. This method evaluates water quality comprehensively and offers ample opportunities to evaluate environmental and engineering processes. It also has recognized potential commercial value.

ORCID

Google Scholar

["GET
