The rest is fresh water, of which only 0.3% flows through rivers and is available for consumption in lakes or reservoirs.

Water is a scarce commodity. In large European cities there are problems in supplying daily drinking water for human consumption, clean water for domestic use, for industry or irrigation. Our consumption habits encourage the appearance of new water pollutants: fragrances, drugs, hormones, cosmetics, household cleaning or gardening products and other substances.

For all this, we dedicate this cycle to this essential good that gives us life, water.

November 3, 2021, at 7:30 p.m., at the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona November 4, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at the Teatre Municipal de Roses

Water determines the climate and our health with Joan O. Grimalt

This presentation will show how water is an essential element of the Earth's climate and how variations in the flow of ocean currents are affecting the climate. It will also show how water is used in the different countries of the world and how it is a vector of disease transmission when it is not managed well.

Joan O. Grimalt holds a doctorate in chemical sciences (UAB, 1983), research professor at the CSIC (1992) and full member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (2013). Environmental organic geochemist dedicated to the study of natural and anthropogenic organic compounds as indicators of climate change and the state of health of ecosystems and organisms (including humans).

November 10, 2021, at 7:30 p.m., at the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona November 11, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at the Teatre Municipal de Roses

Anthropogenic pollutants in water. Sources and impacts on the aquatic environment and human health with Mira Petrovic

Chemicals are part of our daily lives. Human activity emits a large amount of chemical products into the environment and the result is continuous exposure to complex chemical mixtures that affect ecosystems and human beings. Water from rivers and lakes or groundwater is often contaminated by these chemicals, which we are exposed to through drinking water.

Mira Petrovic has been a research professor at ICREA since 2005. PhD in chemistry from the Faculty of Engineering and Chemical Technologies of the University of Zagreb (Croatia). She is currently a senior researcher at the Catalan Water Research Institute (ICRA), where she is head of the Water Quality Area and responsible for the research line on pollutants in treatment processes of waters

November 17, 2021, at 7:30 p.m., at the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona November 18, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at the Teatre Municipal de Roses

The underground waters. Concepts, definitions and basic criteria, and examples of technical management and governance in Catalonia with Enric Vázquez-Suñé

This conference will describe the main concepts and definitions in relation to groundwater, as well as its environmental and socio-economic importance. Mention will also be made of the groundwater planning and management process derived from the European Union's Water Framework Directive and the groundwater directives, and examples of application in Catalonia will be shown.

Enric Vázquez-Suñé is vice-rector of the Institute of Environmental Diagnostics and Water Studies (IDAEA) of the CSIC. He holds a degree in geology from the UB and a doctorate in hydrography from the Higher Technical School of Civil Engineering of the UPC. He is currently a professor and member of the teaching committee of the International Course in Subterranean Hydrology and director of the Professional Master's in Subterranean Hydrology.

November 24, at 7:30 p.m., at the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona November 25, at 12:00 p.m., at the Teatre Municipal de Roses

Current challenges in waste water management with Natàlia Sergienko

The volume and composition of waste water is a major concern for human and environmental health and, therefore, waste water management has been a constant challenge since ancient times. This presentation will provide an overview of wastewater treatment technologies. The technological and social challenges associated with water management will also be discussed.

Natalia Sergienko graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering (2013) of Saratov State Technical University (Russia). Currently, his research focuses on the development of an electrochemical treatment unit, capable of efficiently oxidizing and removing sulphide from wastewater.

December 1, 2021, at 7:30 p.m., at the House of Culture of the Diputació de Girona December 2, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at the Teatre Municipal de Roses

land taken For a new sediment policy with Josep Joan Segarra

The aging of dams, the increasing lack of safety and the retention of sediments in reservoirs are problems that affect most of the world's hydrographic basins and especially deltas, which depend on the good condition of rivers and the existence of flows ecological liquids and solids. At the conference, a mosaic of the issue will be made, which will range from sediment management techniques to the expiry of concessions and environmental canons.

Josep Juan Segarra has a degree in journalism (2007) and in social and cultural anthropology (2021) from the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona. Since 2000, he has participated in different organizations and social movements in defense of the river and the Ebro delta. Since 2015, he has been coordinating the Sediments Campaign. He is a founding member of the Sediments Association, audiovisual producer, poet and manager of the company Poesia Surf Kaiak. In addition, he does research and practical work on bioconstruction.

["GET
