On 15 June 2026, researcher Joaquim Comas participated in the workshop “Looking into Nature-based Solutions: Bridging Mechanistic and Machine Learning Modelling for Wastewater Treatment”, held as part of the IWA WWRmod 2026 international seminar in Seva (Barcelona, Spain).

During the session, Joaquim Comas presented Nat4Wat, a decision-support tool designed to facilitate the selection and sizing of nature-based solutions (NBS) for water management. This innovative platform integrates data, expert knowledge and models to provide multicriteria analyses that consider both environmental impacts and associated costs.

The tool enables the definition of complex water management scenarios, ranging from domestic wastewater treatment to stormwater management, and helps decision-makers identify the most suitable solution from technical, economic and environmental perspectives. With more than 50 catalogued technologies and hundreds of users, Nat4Wat has established itself as a benchmark for improving decision-making in the selection and evaluation of natural treatment systems. The tool is being developed within the framework of the GGsolutions project (PID2024-161596OB-C21), funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF, EU), as well as the EU-LAC RESOLVER project (PCI2026-177651-1).

Finally, the scientific community was invited to collaborate in the development and application of the tool, particularly in areas such as the modelling of micropollutants and pathogens.
