This research institute was created on October 26, 2006 by the government of the Generalitat de Catalunya as part of the Catalan Research Centers Program (CERCA). Research Institute attached to the University of Girona, according to the Decree of the Generalitat of Catalonia of July 6, 2018. Inaugurated on October 7, 2009.
It has the impetus of its patrons: the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat of Catalonia (DREU), the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and the University of Girona (UdG).
The Catalan Government has opted for ICRA as a multidisciplinary center for water research.
It is an international reference that commits to the investigation of the integral water cycle, in terms of water resources, water quality, in the broadest sense of the word, (chemical, microbiological, ecological, etc…) and treatment and evaluation technologies and the transfer of this knowledge to society and the business and industrial fabric.
ICRA, given the importance of water as a fundamental resource in life and the problems that surround it, aims to become a pole of knowledge with international resonance in water science and technology.
The research carried out at ICRA is related to all aspects related to water, especially those related to its rational use and the effects of human activity on water resources.
ICRA is particularly interested in investigating and solving the impacts of the drought, as well as the quality aspects of water treatment and reuse, devoting preferential attention to the Mediterranean.
In summary, the ICRA has been created to develop quality multidisciplinary research in the field of water.
