A group of ICRA-CERCA researchers participated in the XXII Congress organized by the Asociación Ibérica de Limnología (AIL) in Vigo, which was held from 23 to 28 June. This event brought together scientists from all over to discuss the latest advances in aquatic ecosystem research. Under the theme “Aquatic ecosystems at risk: improving our knowledge to mitigate the effects of global change, promote adaptive management and involve citizens”, we presented the results of several projects we have been developing.
The ICRA-CERCA team presented the results of four different projects, dealing with topics as diverse as biofilm stressors in fluvial communities, greenhouse gas emissions in locks and rivers that dry up, and how they affect algal communities, urban rainfall and the subsequent runoff process. The presentations carried out were the following:
In addition, Anna Freixa presented two posters on ecofeminism and stressors in biofilm:
The congress was a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge with other experts, discuss the current challenges facing aquatic ecosystems and explore new ways to protect them. We came back with new ideas and collaborations that will undoubtedly enrich our future projects. Research and cooperation with other institutions are essential to face the effects of global change and ensure the sustainability of our water resources.
