ICRA researcher Gianluigi Buttiglieri and University of Basilicata (UNIBAS) researcher Monica Brienza organized an international workshop at ICRA on March 25th, 2026. Under the title “Water Reuse for safe and sustainable agriculture, food and the Environment in the Mediterranean”, the sessions addressed the reuse of greywater and treated wastewater from technical, environmental, and social perspectives.
During the event, various decision-making tools were presented, alongside studies on sustainability and the impacts of contaminants on irrigation in Tunisia and Morocco. Discussions also covered water circularity in the agrifood sector through the AquaLoops4Med project and wastewater reuse experiences in Italy. In the section dedicated to innovative treatment technologies, ICRA researcher Esther Mendoza presented the operation of the institute’s green wall, a practical example focused on micropollutant removal, resource recovery, and the development of circular solutions for more sustainable water systems.
This joint workshop is part of the PRIMA-SAFE and NEWater projects, both funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), as well as the Acting4Water project.
