Vicenç Acuña, new director of ICRA-CERCA

The Catalan Water Research Institute (ICRA-CERCA) has successfully completed the selection process for the position of Director of the research center. The appointment has fallen to Vicenç Acuña, researcher at the Institute since 2009 and currently head of the Resources and Ecosystems area.

With a Doctorate in fluvial ecology, obtained at the University of Barcelona in 2004, his main scientific interests are the ecology of temporary fluvial systems, the ecological effects of emerging pollutants, as well as the transformations they experience, the integrated management of the urban system of water, and nature-based solutions for wastewater treatment in urban areas. Thus, his research encompasses both aspects of basic and applied science, and encourages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.

The new director’s main challenge will be to promote excellence in the field of natural and urban water carried out by ICRA-CERCA.
