On 21 October, ICRA’s sala d’actes hosted a training workshop organized by Mettler Toledo, focused on laboratory best practices aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of analytical processes.

Participants, mainly technical staff from ICRA and the University of Girona (UdG), had the opportunity to update their knowledge of the technologies and working methodologies that enhance laboratory safety, quality and productivity.

The session began by addressing key aspects of laboratory weighing, including the proper placement of balances, calibration and verification procedures, and specific recommendations for weighing inside laboratory enclosures.

The workshop also explored pH and conductivity measurements, with particular attention to electrode maintenance and selection, as well as the influence of temperature on measurement quality. In the area of pipetting, topics included different types of pipettes and tips, ergonomics, operator safety, and quality control procedures.

Finally, the workshop also included a presentation on the integration of automation solutions in analytical laboratories. During this presentation, participants were introduced to several alternatives for automating tasks and workflows with the aim of reducing errors, increasing process traceability, and improving productivity, safety, and the accuracy of analytical results.
