Cuervo Lumbaque, Elisabeth

Elisabeth Cuervo holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil-2020), a Master of Science in Chemistry from the State University of Ponta Grossa (Brazil-2016) and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the Francisco José de Caldas District University (Colombia-2012). His doctoral thesis was nominated to receive the award for the best thesis in Chemistry in Brazil in 2021, and he holds an International PhD in Advanced Oxidation Processes. He has received Juan de la Cierva and Marie Sklodowska-Curie research grants for the past two years to continue his research related to the degradation of short-chain PFAS in water by functionalizing atomically doped graphene sponge electrodes and/or two-dimensional materials. She has 17 scientific publications, 12 of which are as the main author, with a total of 292 citations (Scopus database – May 2023) and an H-index of 10. He has conducted research on different water and wastewater treatments (advanced oxidation processes, advanced reduction processes, heterogeneous photocatalysis, electrochemistry and enzymatic treatment), with a particular focus on the fate of emerging pollutants. In the last six years, he has worked on the optimization of the process with the identification of transformation products of persistent organic pollutants and the prediction of their toxicity. In collaboration with other research groups, he has had the opportunity to expand his knowledge and use statistical tools for process optimization, as well as QSAR tools for the identification of toxicity alerts. In addition, she has experience in education and has collaborated with research groups in Brazil and Colombia implementing new science teaching-learning strategies for high school and university students.
