On 5 June 2026, coinciding with World Environment Day, the 13th Women and Science Conference: “What Do We Know About Microplastics?” was held at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans in Barcelona. The event brought together researchers from leading institutions to discuss the occurrence, impacts and mitigation of microplastics and plastic additives in the environment.
ICRA was represented by Dr. Sara Rodríguez-Mozaz, who delivered the opening scientific lecture, “(Micro)plastics and plastic additives in terrestrial and aquatic environments.” Her presentation highlighted current knowledge on the sources, environmental distribution and analytical challenges associated with microplastics, as well as their potential implications for ecosystems and human health.
The conference also served to promote the visibility of women researchers and recognize their contribution to scientific progress and environmental sustainability.
