The Girostudi project is underway as one of the most innovative public health initiatives in the Girona region. Led by the Girona Provincial Council through the Dipsalut Public Health Agency, Girostudi will create a digital cohort of around 4,000 people, aged between 16 and 74, randomly selected from nineteen representative municipalities across the territory. Over the course of ten years, these individuals will provide regular information on their health, well-being, living conditions, and environment, as well as biological samples. The aim is to generate local data that will allow for a deeper understanding of the social and environmental determinants of health. This will help design fairer, evidence-based, and locally adapted public policies.
The project also involves the participation of ICRA, which, together with the CSIC and the Dipsalut Observatory, has submitted proposals to European and Spanish Ministry of Science programmes to study, among others, the links between the presence of chemical contaminants in wastewater and in the cohort’s biological samples. In doing so, ICRA reaffirms its commitment to interdisciplinary research and to promoting both environmental and public health through its expertise in contaminant and wastewater analysis.
