To mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11F), ICRA held an Open House Day, allowing dozens of visitors to gain first-hand insight into the research conducted at the center. The event, co-organized with Girona City Council, was part of the special program for Women and Science Week 2026.

Attendees, including many families and children, toured the institute’s laboratories and flagship spaces, such as the experimental streams and the green walls. Throughout the tour, the ICRA team demonstrated examples of the center’s daily activities, placing special emphasis on the decisive role of women in scientific research.

At the end of the tour, visitors had the chance to participate in five interactive workshops related to the institute’s research:

  • Bioaccumulation of contaminants in the food web.
  • Observing microorganisms under the microscope.
  • Filtration and cleaning of untreated water.
  • Production of proteins and animal feed from methanotrophic bacteria.
  • Water tasting.

Additionally, visitors were given the chance to put on white lab coats and take photos as “real researchers” at a scientific photocall. Through initiatives like this, ICRA reaffirms its commitment to science outreach and the creation of female role models for future generations.
