ICRA RESEARCH: NOWELTIES, Joint PhD Laboratory for New Materials and Inventive Water Treatment Technologies

Monday, 05 October 2020

The NOWELTIES project, coordinated by the ICRA , is a European Joint Doctorate (EJD) funded by the MSCA program of Innovative Training Networks (ITN) of H2020. The main objective of NOWELTIES is to organize a platform (Joint European Doctorate) that will provide cutting-edge training opportunities for the education of the water treatment experts of the future. The main activity is a research program composed of 14 individual research projects executed by 14 doctoral researchers hired by institutions in Spain (ICRA and University of Santiago de Compostela), Germany (University of Aachen and Technical University of Munich ), Croatia (Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb), Serbia (Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade and Institute of Physics, Belgrade) and Italy ( University of Ferrara). Research focuses on the development of innovative water treatment technologies (advanced biological treatments, innovative oxidation processes, hybrid systems) that allow meeting the diverse treatment demands for a multitude of interconnected uses arising from water cycles. water

The action focuses the expertise of several institutes across Europe on current wastewater treatment issues, making the network a powerful tool for the development of urgently needed new treatment technologies. The project not only provides a broad scientific education to the 14 early-stage researchers, but also challenges them to develop their ability to adapt to new environments, increase their language skills and broaden their cultural horizons, to turn them into mature European citizens and researchers.

Project duration: February 2019 – January 2023
Coordinator: Prof. Look at Petrovic
Other ICRA participants: Prof. Jelena Radjenovic, Prof. Wolfgang Gernjak
