Research and Innovation for the sustainable use of water

Start-up of ICRA’s Experimental Green Wall Facility

Monday, 24 March 2025

In March 2025, ICRA launched its Experimental Green Wall Facility, designed to treat up to 200 L/day of greywater generated within the building. The system combines a pre-treatment stage with a modular green wall installed on the façade. Conceived as a living laboratory, the facility offers valuable research opportunities on the influence of plant species, substrates, and hydraulic regimes, and will support several ongoing and future projects. The first visit took place during the MULTISOURCE (Grant Agreement No. 101003527) project meeting, where researchers and experts in nature-based solutions for water management explored the facility, exchanged impressions, and proposed ideas for further development. A promising step towards sustainable water management solutions through nature-based innovation, which will continue to be developed within the framework of the NEWater project (PCI2024-153445).
