The Catalan Water Research Institute (ICRA) organized the biennial meeting of its Scientific Advisory Board on April 21 and 22, after last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic. The Council is made up of 14 international scientists of prestige and recognized competence, especially in the field of water and all those sciences that relate to it
Damià Barceló , director of ICRA, and Bernd Bilitewski , president of the Council, were in charge of welcoming the attendees, among whom were Despo Fatta-Kassinos , Fang Wang , Krishna Pagilla and Yolanda Picó , who they were debuting in the position as new members of the Council.
During the conference, a review was made of the milestones achieved by ICRA, to date, in the different research areas and some of the unique projects that are currently being carried out were presented, such as the coordination of the temporary program of surveillance of SARS CoV-2 in wastewater from Catalonia, which has helped the Catalan authorities to track the virus, the Electron4water project or the Water Reuse project.
The attendees celebrated the increase in the number of SCI and PhD articles published during the last 2020 compared to previous years, and made a very satisfactory balance of the funding obtained this year and what is expected until 2025. During the meeting, ICRA’s Strategic Plan for the coming years, between 2021 and 2030, was also presented, during which several research, economic and administrative strategies will be carried out with the aim of continuing to grow the ICRA.
