The AquaLoops4Med project (“Mediterranean network for sustainable and circular water management in the agrifood sector, GA 101161349”) has been selected under the Interregional Innovation Instrument (I3) call, which supports shared innovation projects among different European regions. Coordinated by the Catalan Water Partnership (Spain), the project aims to address the main challenges of water management in the Mediterranean agrifood sector and to promote a circular economy through cooperation among companies, public administrations, research centers, and civil society.
AquaLoops4Med involves 13 partners from four European regions: Catalonia, Basilicata (Italy), Attica, and Thessaly (Greece). It has a total budget of €3.6 million, of which €2.7 million are funded. At ICRA, the team led by Gianluigi Buttiglieri will work on several tasks, including the assessment of human health risks associated with crops irrigated with reclaimed water, with the participation of Sara Rodriguez-Mozaz, Lucas Alonso, and Joaquim Comas.
