The research carried out in the framework of this line aims to improve current technologies and develop new tools for the treatment of waste water in the context of the circular economy. The aim is not only to achieve the desired treatment levels, but also to recover the valuable resources contained in the wastewater, such as energy, nutrients and water. This is carried out throughout the urban sanitation system, from the point source of wastewater to its treatment facilities.
Research topics:
• Anaerobic wastewater treatment
• Elimination and recovery of nutrients
• Recovery of value-added compounds
• Control and mitigation of greenhouse gases • Control of odors, toxicity and corrosion in sinks
