On 26 November, a new edition of Confluències UdG-ICRA was held in the Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Science at UdG, a space dedicated to sharing research carried out at both institutions. On this occasion, the selected topic was “Plastics and Microplastics in the Environment: Transport, Transformation, and Removal”, and the event featured six presentations. The roughly forty attendees were able to learn about recent studies and advances on plastic pollution, environmental transport, microbial colonization, and treatment and removal strategies.

The talks included:

  • “(Micro)plastics and plastic additives contamination in the aquatic and terrestrial environment” – Sara Rodriguez-Mozaz
  • “Shear induced microplastic infiltration in sediment beds” – Jordi Colomer
  • “Turbulence driven adsorption of metals by microplastic particles” – Teresa Serra
  • “Colonization of plastics and bioplastics in streams” – Anna Romaní
  • “Towards the mineralization of recalcitrant plastics and plasticisers, the NYMPHE project” – Lluís Bañeras
  • “Microplastics in a Nature-Based water treatment System. Laboratory and pilot scale studies” – Manuela Hidalgo and Eva Marguí

The event promoted the exchange of knowledge, essential for advancing the understanding and management of plastic and microplastic pollution in ecosystems.
