EU-JAMRAI 2 is the second edition of the European Joint Action on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections. Its goal is to transform the global approach to antimicrobial resistance through a One Health perspective. With increased funding for 2024–2027 (50,000,000 € EU4Health and 12,500,000 € from contributing partners), the EU aims to strengthen cooperation among 30 member countries and establish Europe as a leader in best practices. European institutions and international organizations (ECDC, EFSA, WHO, WOAH, OECD, UNEP and FAO), together with professionals in human, animal, and environmental health, contribute their expertise to coordinate efforts and align existing initiatives.
ICRA participates as an associated entity in work teams on environmental prevention and control of infections and environmental surveillance of the determinants of antimicrobial resistance. Researchers involved in this European joint action are Sara Rodríguez Mozaz, María Eugenia Valdés, Meritxell Gros Calvo, Jose Luis Balcázar Rojas, Gianluigi Buttiglieri, Mira Petrovic, Carles Borrego Moré. ICRA contributes with its members’ expertise and regional perspective on AMR within the environmental sector.
During 2026 ICRA will participate in the design of a Pilot Surveillance exercise of AMR in the Environment. The results of this pilot experience will serve as basis for the development of guidelines on surveillance and control of AMR in the environment for the whole EU.
