On June 11, the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) and Eurecat (Technology Centre of Catalonia) held the inaugural event of the Community of Practice on water reuse in Costa Brava at ICRA’s headquarters in Girona. The meeting brought together various stakeholders from the water sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities offered by non-conventional water resources in a context of increasingly frequent droughts in Catalonia.

The event is part of the European project RECREATE, which aims to promote strategies for a more resilient and sustainable management of the integral water cycle. In the case of Costa Brava, ICRA and Eurecat coordinate a case study that seeks to analyse how water reuse and other alternative resources can contribute to ensuring long-term water security.

The session began with an initial presentation, followed by a participatory debate among the attendees. The discussion addressed the main objectives of the project, as well as the barriers and risks associated with the integration of non-conventional sources into water management.

With this first meeting, the Community of Practice establishes a collaborative space for knowledge sharing between experts, public administrations and key stakeholders in the territory, with the aim of finding joint solutions to tackle droughts and move towards sustainable water security.
