On October 9, 2024, researchers from the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA-CERCA) Sergi Sabater, Sara Rodriguez-Mozaz and Gianluigi Buttiglieri held an interview with Silvie Harder, a Canadian researcher and writer. The meeting, which took place at the ICRA-CERCA facilities in Girona, was framed in the context of the transatlantic media grant that Harder is developing with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation.

During the conversation, issues of great relevance in the field of sustainable water management were addressed. Among these, special emphasis was placed on the impact of water scarcity on rivers and aquatic ecosystems, as well as the challenges posed by emerging pollutants. ICRA-CERCA researchers shared insights on recent advances in wastewater treatment and reuse, highlighting the potential of these techniques to address the global water crisis.

One of the highlights of the discussion was the exploration of nature-based solutions to address these pressing issues. The researchers highlighted the key arguments of the ReUseMP3 project (PID2020-115456RB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033), which works to develop innovative strategies for wastewater recovery with an integrative and sustainable approach. The interview was an opportunity to exchange perspectives on how to connect scientific knowledge with practical actions needed to address global water challenges.

With this collaboration, ICRA-CERCA reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of knowledge and international dialogue in research on the sustainability of water resources.
