ICRA has hosted a seminar at its Auditorium by Associate Professor Thomas Seviour from the Centre for Water Technologies (WATEC) at Aarhus University (Denmark).
His talk, entitled “Extracellular polymeric substances from activated sludge as viable recoverable resources”, has explored how extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) found in activated sludge can become valuable recoverable resources.
Professor Seviour, an expert in biofilm extracellular polymers, has presented innovative methods to recover individual polymers from clinical, industrial, and aquatic biofilms. His research has provided new insights into the function, expression, and ecology of structural extracellular polymers, highlighting the potential to transform wastewater treatment plants into biopolymer production facilities.
Professor Seviour’s visit is part of the TED2021-CH4-BIOPOL project, funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) and the European Union under the “NextGenerationEU” programme, in which he collaborates as a member of the research team.
