ICRA researcher Marc Castaño defended his doctoral thesis on 19 September 2025 at ICRA. The thesis, entitled “Pharmaceuticals in Water Reclamation: Prioritisation and Monitoring for Sustainable Irrigation Practices in Mediterranean Regions”, was supervised by Gianluigi Buttiglieri and Sara Rodríguez-Mozaz.

The examination committee was composed of Meritxell Gros (ICRA), Monica Brienza (University of Basilicata), and Antoni Ginebreda (CSIC).

The ultimate aim of the research was to advance the understanding of the risks associated with the presence of pharmaceuticals in the context of water reuse in the Mediterranean region.
