On January 28, a new meeting of the Reuse Working Group of the Catalan Water Partnership (CWP) was held. The aim of these meetings is to exchange information, news and technologies (at Catalan and international level), promote new innovative projects, facilitate collaboration between different sectors related to reuse and promote contact between CWP partners to promote reuse initiatives.
Joaquim Comas , ICRA researcher and associate professor at the UdG, participated in the session to talk about “Decision support systems for the evaluation of water reuse schemes”.
In his presentation, Joaquim Comas explained that the development of feasible water reuse projects requires addressing several challenges. For example, guaranteeing the quality of water needed for different uses, selecting the most suitable water treatment technology, planning the best distribution network for reclaimed water or avoiding risks to health or the environment. “In addition, we must evaluate the different alternatives based on multiple criteria. And in these situations, the use of decision support tools can make the job easier for those who have to make decisions“.
In this line, Comas explained two different but complementary projects that had the objective of helping the decision-making process in water reuse systems: the SUGGEREIX project (financed by the Catalan Water Agency) and the Retos CLEaN-TOUR project (financed by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad).
