From 5 to 7 December 2025, the city of Girona hosted the annual meeting of the European Water Movement (EWM), an open, participatory and plural network that defended water as part of the common heritage of humanity and as a fundamental human right for all living beings.
Over three days, activists, researchers, representatives of public institutions and social movements from across Europe came together to discuss key challenges in water management. The sessions addressed major issues such as the advancement of water privatisation processes, the defence of public water management, and the need to promote democratic, transparent and participatory models of water governance.
The meeting also served as a space for exchanging experiences and knowledge, strengthening alliances among social, scientific and institutional actors committed to fair, sustainable and people-centred water management across Europe.
