Representatives of the company Yachiyo Engineering Co. (Hajime Watanabe, Kimiko Tamotsu, Takashi Toyoda) visited the ICRA, last October 25, to meet with the researchers of the SARSAIGUA program, the Surveillance Network of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater from Catalonia which promoted by the Public Health Agency of Catalonia and the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and coordinated by ICRA.
The purpose of the visit by the three technical consultants from the Japanese company was to conduct a preparatory study for the installation of a waste water epidemiology system in the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN) commissioned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.
During the meeting aspects of configuration, structure and operation of the Network as well as the data management system and the web platform were presented.
The Yachiyo Engineering Co team was particularly interested in knowing how the action is coordinated and the relationship with the WWTPs. As well as knowing what perspective the Catalan government has on the Network and how the information obtained has been used at the Health level.
Another point of interest was the possibility of using the Network for the analysis of other pollutants in the future, as well as prediction models that integrate waste water data with others, such as mobility data. Finally, there was also a question about projects related to SMARTcities (Barcelona).
The delegation of Yachiyo Engineering will continue its program of visits to the Spanish territory and, soon, plans to meet with representatives of Canal Isabel II (Madrid) and Labaqua (Alicante).
