Spread Sewer Sensing for Sustainable Management – 4SM
The goal of 4SM is to create a new set of sensors and tools for the advanced and sustainable management of wastewater systems. 4SM will address four of the most important challenges for optimal sewer management, such as i) promote the digitalization process of sewer networks, ii) improve the capabilities of current monitoring tools, iii) explore the recovery of resources and energy from sewers, i iv) develop highly innovative methods for corrosion, toxicity and odor control.
In general, 4SM contributes to maximizing the performance of urban water systems in relation to i) the reduction of the environmental impact, ii) the warning against the risk of floods, iii) infrastructure resilience to climate change, iv) the efficient use of resources, i v) the long-term management of infrastructure capital assets.
