Development of an advanced tool for preventive management and for the efficiency of water resources in urban sanitation infrastructures

GESTOR is a new management tool, in the design and development process, to improve the current management of sewer assets, with a special emphasis on three specific aspects: 1) low-cost online detection of combined sewer overflows, 2) infiltration and exfiltration due to leaks from improperly functioning sewer pipes 3) reduced service life and collapse due to induced corrosion generated by sulphide exposure. GESTOR combines extensive relevant data monitoring campaigns, modeling tools (such as SWMM) linked to advanced decision support systems and life cycle assessment techniques. The development of the tool has been carried out in the sewerage system of Peñíscola (Spain).
