ICRA researcher Esther Mendoza participated in the 19th IWA International Conference on Wetland Systems for Water Pollution Control (ICWS), held in Chania, Crete, from 13 to 17 September 2026.

The event brought together more than 300 researchers and professionals from 54 countries working on the development of nature-based solutions for water management and treatment.

As part of the NEWater project (PCI2024-153445), funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) and the European Union, Esther Mendoza presented the paper entitled “Assessing technical performance and social acceptance of a hybrid green wall–ozonation system for greywater reuse in urban housing”.

The research focuses on assessing the technical performance and social acceptance of a hybrid system combining a green wall and ozonation for the treatment and reuse of greywater in urban housing.

The presentation generated a discussion on the need to combine the efficiency of treatment systems with public perception and social acceptance in order to facilitate the effective implementation of these types of solutions.

The conference also provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas, learn about international advances and strengthen research collaborations with professionals and researchers from around the world.
