Comas Matas, Joaquim

Joaquim Comas leads the research line in modelling and decision support systems. He is also Full Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Girona, where he is a member of the LEQUIA research group. He has a doctorate in Industrial Engineering (2000) and has led or participated in more than 50 R+D+ii technology transfer projects, both nationally and internationally. He has published more than 125 articles in international peer-reviewed journals (h-index of 36) and has supervised eighteen doctoral theses. In 2006, he was awarded the Early Career Research Excellence Award by the International Society for Environmental Modeling and Software (iEMSs). In 2022, he was one of the founders of the first company derived from ICRA (Catalan Water Research Institute), called Ecomemb ( https://www.ecomemb.com ), focused on the recycling and regeneration of membranes for water treatment. Currently, his main research activity focuses on the development of tools and technologies, including nature-based solutions, to promote the implementation of the circular economy in the urban water cycle (i.e. the recovery and reuse of water and nutrients).
