  • Research

On Thursday, 6 November, a knowledge transfer workshop of the GiroNat project was held at ICRA, focusing on sharing experiences and knowledge on the monitoring, digitalisation and modelling of urban drainage systems. The presentations emphasised the importance of tools that facilitate model development, as well as their calibration and validation, showcasing their application in real-case studies in cities such as Mataró and Manresa.

In addition, innovative experiences in the installation of sensors in sewer systems were presented, enabling the collection of highly valuable data for the understanding and management of drainage networks. The workshop generated a significant amount of knowledge that now needs to be unified and systematised in order to foster effective transfer to all urban drainage system operators. It also highlighted that collaboration between public authorities, research centres and companies is key to continuing progress towards more efficient, resilient and sustainable urban drainage management.

The workshop on sewer system monitoring and modelling can now be viewed at the following link.
