Research Scientist
Gianluigi Buttiglieri holds a PhD in Environmental Health Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), 2008. Postdoctoral researcher in Italy and then at ICRA, he obtained the Ramon i Cajal grant (2016-2021) and has been a research scientist at ICRA since 2021. His research focuses on issues of circular economy, decentralized treatments, nature-based solutions and water and health for the treatment and reuse of wastewater and greywater, in particular regarding organic micropollutants (i.e. active pharmaceutical compounds, endocrine disrupting compounds). In terms of technologies, he has been working with conventional activated sludge systems, enriched biomass (nitrifying) and pure strains, membrane bioreactors, direct osmosis, constructed wetlands, swimming pool water disinfection, UV-based advanced oxidation processes – LEDs.
