Pijuan Vilalta, Maite

Research Scientist at ICRA since 2010 and Head of ICRA’s Technologies and Evaluation Area since 2019. Her research interests are framed in waste water treatment technologies, with special emphasis on improving processes for a more effective elimination of macro and micro pollutants and mitigating fugitive emissions of greenhouse gases. She is particularly interested in the circular economy concept applied to water treatment with the aim of recovering energy, nutrients and compounds of high added value. She received her doctorate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2004) in the area of ​​Environmental Engineering to continue a postdoctoral stay (2005-2010) at the University of Queensland (Australia). During her professional career, she has led numerous research projects and supervised several doctoral theses that have resulted in several scientific articles. She has participated in editorial committees of scientific journals (Scientific Reports, Case Studies and Chemical Engineering) and is currently Editor of Water Research magazine. Finally, mention that she has been part of scientific committees at several International Water Association congresses and that she co-organized the 6th IWA Ecotechnologies for wastewater treatment Conference that took place in Girona in June 2023, with more than 500 attendees from 45 countries from all over the world.
