Catalan Water Research Institute research and innovation for the sustainable use of water

The Mass Spectrometry Unit (UEM) aims to be a reference in the determination of emerging chemical contaminants in wastewater, natural and consumer water.

With the acquisition of technologically advanced instrumentation, analytical solutions are provided for the identification and quantification of organic compounds at trace levels of global interest. The EMU is divided into two subunits depending on the chromatographic technique to which it is associated:

GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY COUPLED TO MASS SPECTROMETRY (GC-MS)

The Mass Spectrometry unit associated with Gas Chromatography (UEM GC-MS) focuses its activity on the identification and quantification of organic compounds as belonging to different families, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, disinfection byproducts, etc. through multi-waste methodologies.
The availability of state-of-the-art equipment allows us to face the challenges that arise in environmental matters, both from the point of view of sensitivity and the monitoring of new emerging contaminants.
